Solar heat for above ground pool

Review Date: June 24, 2009
Reviewer: df, PA, USA
We purchased 2 of these panels to heat our 24 ft round pool. The first year, we laid it out on the ground, but this year we have it mounted up on the roof. Coupled with 24 Ft Round 8 Mil Standard Blue Swimming Pool Solar Cover and a timer on our pump, we have lovely warm pool water at around 80 to 83 degrees in mid June with air temps of around mid to high 70s (western PA). Without the solar heaters, the water temp was in the low 70s. We're expecting even warmer water by mid Summer.

We use a timer on the pump so that the water flows through the heater during the warmest and brightest times of the day, and the solar cover on the pool keeps the warm water from evaporating during the cooler times of day.

Only downsides are getting it off the roof every winter before the snow comes. The system does not come with a stand, so you either need to make one, lay it on the ground or roof mount it.
