Here are some fantastic methods for creating some amazing faux surface finishes (For Tips on Finishing YOur Skin: Check out Cocoa Butter Stretch Marks)

1.  Begin off with just a small space to get the practice of things before attempting to take on a complete room.  If you are a new comer to a specific technique, it will be a lot easier to cover up almost any errors with a more compact surface.

2.  Generally make certain that the work area that you’re using is neat and tidy.  Absolutely nothing worse than attempting to perform some work with an disorganized room.  This includes things like neatly taping non coated areas.  This is especially essential when you are doing this type of painting as a living or side job and therefore are working in a client’s home.  You want to at the least give the look that you’re well-organized and understand what you’re up to.

3.  When doing a faux finish to a room, always tape off anything that is not going to get painted.  You also needs to make use of the best painters tape that you can locate.  The inexpensive painters tape tends to adhere badly and may result in the end result to not be as clean as you desire since paint can sometimes drip under the paint.  A high-quality painters tape can and will prevent this from happening.  Also, bear in mind to hang about until the paint is totally dry prior to even attempting to take off the tape.  There is not anything worse than destroying a great paint job since the tape was taken off too early.

4.  Whenever you’re starting to try a new way of a faux finish, try obtaining examples of the paints initially and do some on small practice bits of wood or foam.  Do that as well as you would if you were planning to do an entire wall, just do it at a lesser scale.  This should give you a great deal of practice on the technique for the finale and give you more confidence once you do the real thing on the wall.  Another good reason to doing samples like this first is to be able to try different shades and make sure the colors that you pick go well together and appear good.  A lot of times you are able to choose a couple of colors believing that they will work excellent together only to discover how they clash when they’re utilized in a faux finish app.

5.  When shopping for glaze, buy the best that you could afford.  If you can afford not to be cheap, don’t!  Also make sure that the glaze can be utilized using the paint that you’re using.
