If you are a beginner, then before you take on any project it’s critical to get everything you need first. Creating an action plan is an excellent way to start. If you want to build a shed, then you will need to get a set of storage shed drawings. However, it’s critical to be as prepared as you can before doing so. The following questions will help you prepare for your shed building project.

What is the purpose of the shed?

Initially, you might be thinking that the shed is just going to be for garden tools. However, will it be storing additional items in the near future? For example, maybe your kids have equipment that needs to be stored. Perhaps your wife needs storage space for the outdoor Christmas decorations. Put a lot of thought into what you plan on storing in your shed long term before coming to any conclusions.

How big?

Once you have determined what will be stored in your shed, then you can figure out just how much storage will be needed. This involves factoring in any future purchases that you may have planned. For example, you will probably be buying more tools or equipment in the future if you are building a garden shed. The last thing you want to happen is to run out of space.

Where will it be placed?

Where is the ideal spot for your shed? At minimum, it should be easy to get to. You may prefer to have it be hidden so it’s not apart of your landscaping. Think long term, as once it gets put in one spot it’s going to be tough to move.. Check to ensure that the spot you want it is large enough for the shed.

Is a building permit required?

Research what the shed building by-laws are for your area. Normally, if the size of the shed is no larger than a specific size, then you won’t need a building permit. If the size of your shed doesn’t comply with the regulations, then you must submit your building plans for approval. You don’t want city officials to tell you to take your shed down because it doesn’t comply with their regulations.

What is your budget?

This probably needs to be answered before any other question. Unless you know how much you can spend, then it’s difficult to know what shed plan to get and which materials you can afford. Knowing your budget will help you answer some of the questions listed above.

Where can you find shed plans?

You can check the home improvement stores in your area, home planners, and websites online to find garden shed plans.

Now you have answers to some of the most important questions about your shed. Now you are ready to get started!
