New technology for solar power is on its way. Articles keep coming out in the news of amazing possibilities such as using paint as a basis for solar power or the solar polymer printed onto fabrics. For the person who wants a solar power house these developments are quite a way down the track. So while interesting, they are not much help for the person considering their options when it comes to solar power.

Anyone can go on the internet and find “build your own solar panels for as little as $50 and have a solar power house for $200″ . However when you look at the plans you find you have to be a fairly good handyman to be able to make sense of them. They are nowhere near as simple as they make out in the sales spiel.

A report by CNN talked of a simple system to come onto the market as early as 2011. This is a solar panel which plugs into an ordinary power socket, feeding power in rather than taking power out so it doesn’t need professionals to install it. Single panels will be able to be purchased for $600 to $800 and these will supply 30-40 kwh each month, or about 1 kwh each day. This is a great choice for people who cannot afford a full solar power set-up with inverter. These solar panels are not fixed in the same way as current PVs so they could be of great benefit to those who rent their homes. They can just take the panels with them when they change their rental housing.

Most people find the outlay of $8000 to $10,000 for a current solar panel system to be very heavy and even then it is unlikely to provide all the electricity that is needed. This new type of technology which allows a person to go down to the hardware store and outlay the amount of money they might do for an appliance will offer solar power to so many more people. It is much easier to go “green” and have a solar power house if you can add extra panels as finances allow.
